For decades my friends and family have been flying out of Seattle instead of Vancouver saving a fortune on airline tickets.

Most recently, my sister and dad just got back from a week's holiday in Honolulu. When we priced out round trip tickets from Vancouver to Honolulu to travel in early December, the fare on Air Canada was $600 + $100 tax = $700 per person round trip.

When we priced the same dates Seattle round trip to Honolulu on Travelocity, the fare on United Airlines via San Francisco was $300 per person round trip, inclusive of all taxes! So we booked the tickets with travelocity and my sister and dad had a superb trip.

They took the Quick Shuttle bus between Vancouver and Sea-Tac airport, which cost $80 return for the two of them as they used a two-for-one Entertainment book coupon for the bus.

Both my sister and father were able to get their full Aeroplan points for the flights on United, and as it was via San Francisco they got extra points because of the extra connecting flights. On Air Canada, the $700 fare would only result in half a point per mile flown!

In conclusion, my sister and dad saved over $700 on their tickets to Hawaii by flying out of Seattle instead of Vancouver.

My family has been flying from Seattle to Hawaii since the the early 1970s, and this significant cost anomoly between Canada and the US does not appear to be changing anytime soon! So I encourage everyone to check their travel costs with Travelocity out of Seattle before booking out of Vancouver.

I have the same story. Last month my sister and her three kids needed to fly from Vancouver to Philadelphia, PA for a family visit.

The fare from Vancouver was about $600 per person including taxes. Out of Seattle he got tickets on Travelocity for all three of them for $700  including the taxes.. for the same travel dates.

So my sister saved $1100 paying $700 out of Seattle instead of $1800 out of Vancouver. Unbelievable!

My wife and I flew out of Seattle last summer for a vacation to Antigua.  We saved a considerable amount of money (a few hundered dollars I remember).  Those savings were spent when we came back and stayed a couple days at a great high end hotel in seattle.  Worth every penny.

Cheers,
