My wife loves shopping for lotions and cremes as well as other specialty products at the famous specialy shop Kiehl's:
www.kiehls.com Their products are very high end and rather expensive, but my wife swears by them and is a devote long term customer.
We recently had a look at their pricing in their store on Robson Street in Vancouver, BC, and were flabbergasted by the prices compared to what they charge for the same products in their US stores.
With no exaggeration, their prices in Canada are 30-40% more expensive! Why? I think these guys are out to price gouge Canadians plain and simple as that. Their products are light in weight so the cost difference cannot be attributed to high shipping costs. After all, most Canadian cities are closer to their NY head office than most of their Southern US locations. And given that there is a free trade agreement in place between Canada and the US (since the early 90s) there is no additional duty levied on their products when impoprted into Canada. So these guys are merely price gouging Canadians!
The solution is to simply stock up next time you are in the US (as they have numerous locations in WA, NY and NJ) and avoid spending your money in their over-priced Canadian outlets.
